In our Kindergartens children grow in a secure and caring environment, surrounded by quality natural toys and materials that allow the children to develop physical and social skills along with creative and imaginative play that together form a wonderful foundation for life.
We have two Kindergarten groups, of up to 16 children each day, with one teacher and at least one assistant each. The groups are mixed age, with children from 3 to 6 years old.
We are fully registered with Ofsted as well as being a registered Steiner Early Years Centre with the Steiner Waldorf Schools Fellowship.
Cath Thurlow is the Early Year Co-ordinator. Our teachers are supported by Teaching Assistants as well as Learning Support Assitants who work with children with particular special education needs.
The Kindergarten session runs from 8.45am to 1.45pm Monday to Friday. We also provide Breakfast Club in the mornings from 8.00 am and Afternoon care in the afternoons till 5.00pm Monday to Thursday.
Children are admitted to the Kindergarten once they have turned 3, if both parents and teachers are satisfied that the child is ready. Readiness for Kindergarten includes showing increasing independence e.g. in potty training, dressing themselves, eating and play. It also includes the beginnings of the ability to socialise with other children, as well as an increasing level of concentration for stories and songs. We also have a Special Educational Needs (SEN) policy that recognises all children are special and have individual needs.
We receive Kindergarten applications up to a year in advance of your child starting Kindergarten.
We hold regular open evenings at the Kindergarten for you to find out more about Beechtree and look around the Kindergarten.
Please email or call us for more information including application forms and full details on our policies. Please note that our Kindergarten information pack and application form is also available on our Admissions page.
All 3 and 4 year olds are eligible for the Free Early Education Entitlement (FEEE) (formerly known as Nursery Education Grant (NEG)) that provides for 15 hours of free nursery education for 38 weeks a year. This is equivalent to 3 free mornings at Beechtree. Beechtree claims this grant on your behalf and deducts it from your fees at the beginning of each term. As a general guide, a child is only eligible for FEEE after the term they turn 3 until the end of the term in which the child turns 5.
Eligible families are able to use some their additional 15 free hours entitlement when children attending our morning sessions.

Choosing to send your child to Kindergarten is not just about remembering wellies and sunhats. At Beechtree families form an integral part of our organisation. Parents are asked to volunteer time, energy, skills and where possible additional voluntary contributions to help cover our costs. As a non-profit charity we rely on additional funding to secure our ongoing activities. Coming to our events throughout the year is a great way to meet other families and support Beechtree.
